SESAME
White sesame (simsim ) is a major crop grown in Northern and North Eastern Uganda . Production of simsim has been continuosly increasing because of high demand for export and domestic consumption. In 1999, 93,000 Metric Tones of simsim was produced, 90% of which was exported. About 100,000 Metric Tones were produced in 2000.


TOBACCO
Tobacco is one of the major cash crop grown in Uganda. The areas that are famous for good quality tobacco production include the West Nile region where about 56,000 farmers are growing the crop on small-holder acreages, Western region in particular ,the districts of Masindi, Hoima, Rukungiri, Kabale and Kisoro. By 1999, about 21,500 Metric Tones of tobacco were produced. Tobacco produced in Uganda is partly processed for domestic market as well as for export. In 1999, tobacco worthy US$ 34 million was exported.


UGANDA  WARAGI
Uganda has a well developed alcoholic drinks industry in East Africa, producing variety of beers and spirits. One of the famous spirits produced is Uganda waragi which has enjoyed the attraction of the local and regional market. In the 60s it enjoyed a very lucrative export market overseas particularly in the USA. The export of Uganda waragi is being revived and is already being exported to overseas markets once again notably the USA and EU.

Fresh   FOWERS

In Uganda,commercial floriculture is a decade old industry that has made a major contribution to the national economy in terms of foreign exchange earnings, employment opportunities and rural development. The floricultural crops produced include twenty seven varieties of roses, some chrysanthemum, bulbs, tubers, live plant rootings and cuttings, cutflowers, fresh foliage and grasses. Uganda floriculture exports are dominated by the roses industry which accounts for 77%, about 150 million stems, of total exports. The variety of roses currently grown are T-hybrids (long stem, big flower head), sweet hearts (shot stem, small flower head) and floribundas (intermediate). Within each of these types there is a wide range available in a wide range of colours.
