Katsuhara’s Voyage to Meet Uganda Coffee
Katsuhara Group was founded by people who love coffee. Mr. Katsuhara, President of Katsuhara Group, has been in the line of coffee business for more than 30 years. He had been traveling around many countries and looking for coffee which he could feel convinced. Then he finally met an authentic coffee in relatively unknown country for coffee in Japan, the Republic of Uganda. But why does Mr. Katsuhara get attached to Uganda coffee so much? One of the main reasons is that coffee in Uganda is naturally grown without any chemical fertilizers.
Coffee beans are living plants. All the living creatures including human beings have their own circumstances which fit them most. So what is the best circumstance for coffee beans? And what is the best cultivation system they need?
Though there were so many types of coffee beans from various countries Mr. Katsuhara could get in Japan, he had not felt really right with them. He found the coffee at last which he had been seeking for at Mount Elgon Region of Bugishu Province in the Republic of Uganda!
The hospitable environment for cultivating coffee beans is in the bountiful nature where you can grow them without pesticides and chemical fertilizers.
When Mr. Katsuhara tasted the coffee for the first time, he was very impressed and had a solid sense that this was the real taste and aroma of coffee!
Mr. Katsuhara was moved by not only the way of cultivating coffee in Uganda and its tastes but also another reason to tell... When Mr. Katsuhara first visited Mount Elgon Region of Bugishu Province in Uganda, he was deeply impressed to see children help harvest coffee beans with their small hands, live day by day with their all energy under hard conditions, but never fail to smile innocently. This visit made him think what he could do to help improve the children’s situation there. Then he came to realize that he should promote and spread the market of Uganda coffee throughout Japan in order to develop their living conditions and keep their beautiful smile.
Because of this whole story behind the scene, Mr. Katsuhara made a great contribution and effort to promote Uganda coffee in Japan, which has blessings of nature with full of affections of farmers in Uganda. Uganda coffee is, in fact, very friendly for the environment and human body as well.
Since Mr. Katsuhara would like as many people as possible to experience Uganda coffee, he developed his own individual route to buy fresh beans and spent more than three years to establish the best way of roasting them. Thanks to his all those efforts, Ambassador James B. Baba of the Embassy of the Republic of Uganda to Japan named this coffee “Uganda Bugish Elgon Coffee”.
Mr. Katsuhara was surprised more than anyone with this honorable outcome.
