2016.12.19. Applications Now Open for the Ashinaga Africa Initiative Leadership Program 2017
Ashinaga is a Japan-based nonprofit organization, which provides educational and emotional support to orphaned students. The organization has supported over 95,000 orphans in the last 45 years, and many of its graduates are actively contributing to society in a variety of fields across the world.
The Ashinaga Africa Initiative began in 2014. Its mission is to contribute to Sub-Saharan Africa’s expanding role in global development through increasing access to higher education abroad. We support orphaned students who are committed to returning home and initiating change by providing access to full financial support to study at university abroad (equivalent to undergraduate degree), including tuition, room, travel cost and other necessary fees.

The conference is one of the efforts to achieve 'A Society where Women Shine', which continues to be one of the priority issues of Abe Administration. Many leading figures from all over the world attended the conference discuss on various women's issues including women empowerment. WAW! is a platform of discussion about women-related issues.
The Embassy of the Republic of Uganda celebrated the 54th Anniversary of Ugandan Independence through a reception held in Hotel Okura on 9th October 2016. Shown in the photo are H.E. the Ambassador Betty Grace Akech-Okullo (right) with the Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Shunsuke Takei, representing the Government of Japan, (left) during the toast.
Ugandan arts and crafts and tourist spots were showcased during the event together with Ugandan products imported by Japanese companies such as cotton from Smiley Earth, dried fruits from Far East and coffee from Crystal Coffee. Guests were also able to enjoy the taste of Ugandan coffee, tea and waragi which were served during the event.
The Uganda Diaspora Japan (UDJ) was also launched during the event. UDJ is a non–profit organization, fully registered with the Government of Japan and was formed mainly to promote the well-being of Ugandans in Japan as well as to strengthen the relationship between Ugandans, Japanese and well-wishers, and harness the Diaspora’s potential to contribute to Uganda’s National Development Agenda.

The Embassy, the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) and the Association of Uganda Tour Operators hosted a promotion tourism seminar on 20th October 2016 with the theme, "Discover Uganda the Pearl of Africa". The presenter was Mr. Hidefumi Kawada (first row center), the Editor of Chikyu No Arukikta Africa Version 2016-2017. The event was attended by Japanese tour operators and travel agents and was supported by the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) and Overseas Tour Operators Association of Japan (OTOA).

The Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (DCIC), Ministry of Internal Affairs - Republic of Uganda, has completed the development of an electronic application and processing system for Visas, Entry Work Permits and Passes and its up and running.For more information, please visit the link below:

Please note that the Embassy of Uganda in Japan will still continue to issue visas using the current system until the e-immigration equipment is installed. Tour operators, airlines and the general public shall be informed when the Embassy is equipped.

H.E the Ambassador visited South Korea to discuss with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea about issues regarding the proposed State visit of the President of the Republic of Korea to Uganda, H.E Park Geun-hye slated for 28th to 30th May 2016.
She also met the leaderships of business and tourism organizations to discuss issues of bilateral relations between Korea and Uganda.

H.E. the Ambassador visited Fukuoka Prefecture from 2nd – 6th November 2015 where she met with the leaderships and/or top officials of the organizations/institutions.
Tokyo --- JFE Steel Corporation announced today that its head office in Tokyo has installed next-generation vending machines that will generate donations to East Africa nations and help to strengthen disaster preparedness at the company's head office in Tokyo.
